To ensure a seamless experience on the Virtual Clinical Education (VCE) platform, follow this 5-step checklist before starting a session:

Requirements

  • A Clinician account

  • VCE Wide angle camera (connected to computer)

  • Charged VCE smart-glass battery

  • Charged VCE stethoscope

  • VCE medical devices

1. Check Network and Bandwidth

  • Login to your VCE account

  • Navigate to the 'Device Test Centre' tab on your VCE dashboard to verify that your network meets the required standards.

2. Start the VCE Session

3. Check Audio and Permissions

Granting Permissions:

  • Microphone/Speaker Access: When prompted by your browser, select 'Allow' to grant microphone access.

  • Manually Selecting Permissions: Adjust permissions manually by clicking the lock icon or settings option in the browser's URL bar, ensuring both microphone and speaker access are enabled.

Selecting Microphone and Speaker Devices:

  • Accessing Audio Video Settings: In the VCE session window, navigate to 'Audio Video Settings' located at the bottom left corner.

  • Choosing Devices:

    • Microphone: From the dropdown menu, select 'Echo Cancelling Microphone'.

    • Speaker: From the dropdown menu, select 'Echo Cancelling Speaker'.

Verifying Selection:

  • The VCE platform displays the currently selected devices 'in use'. Confirm that both the microphone and speaker are set to the echo-canceling options to prevent audio feedback and ensure clear communication.

4. Check Camera

  • Ensure your VCE wide angle camera is properly connected and functioning.

5. Make Sure Your Devices Are Ready

  • Charge your devices and place them on your desk for easy access.

    • Best Practice: Devices should be plugged directly into the computer. If USB ports are unavailable, use the VCE USB hub to connect low-bandwidth devices (e.g., keyboard and mouse) and free up ports for medical devices to be connected directly to your computer.
