If the battery is not pre-installed, insert the rechargeable battery into the handle of the PanOptic Plus Ophthalmoscope.

  2. Charge the Device

Connect the USB charging cable to the handle, and plug it into a power source. Allow the device to fully charge before the first use. A full charge can take several hours, depending on the battery level.

Setting Up the iExaminer SmartBracket

  1. Attach the iExaminer Adapter

    • Slide the adapter onto the Android device until it fits snugly, ensuring it aligns properly with the camera lens.

    • Ensure it is securely attached to avoid any movement during examination.

Using the Ophthalmoscope

Connecting the Android Device to the Ophthalmoscope

  2. on the Mobile Phone

    • After scanning, your mobile device will prompt you to start recording or casting with the VCE platform.

  3. in the browser Browser

    • Return to your main session, where a Share Screen window will have automatically opened.

    • Select the tab you want to share in the Share Screen window, and it will be shared in your session.

You are now ready to use the phone camera and/or manufacturer's application to start an examination.

Conducting an Examination

  1. Prepare the Patient

    • Explain the procedure to the patient and ensure they are comfortable.

    • Dim the room lights to enhance the visibility of the eye’s interior structures.

  2. Position the Ophthalmoscope

    • Hold the ophthalmoscope comfortably, and position yourself in front of the patient.

    • Use your thumb and fingers to stabilise the device and adjust the focus as needed.

  3. Capture the Image

    • Look through the ophthalmoscope's eyepiece or monitor the live feed on your Android device.

    • When you have a clear view of the retina, tap the capture button on the screen.

    • The iExaminer Pro app will save the image or video for further analysis.

Maintenance and Cleaning

  • Clean the Ophthalmoscope

After each use, wipe down the PanOptic Plus ophthalmoscope with a soft, dry cloth. If necessary, use a disinfectant wipe suitable for medical devices.

  • Store Properly

Store the ophthalmoscope and Android adapter in a protective case to avoid damage. Make sure that the device is turned off and charged regularly, to maintain battery health.

Troubleshooting

  • Device Not Detected

Ensure the USB connection between the ophthalmoscope and the computer is secure. If it is, reload the page VCE web app. If this does not fix it, try a different USB port on your computer.

  • Bluetooth Connectivity Issues (if applicable)

Make sure Bluetooth is enabled on your mobile device and that the device is within range. Restart both the ophthalmoscope and the mobile device to refresh the connection.

  • Connection Issues

If the iExaminer app does not recognise the ophthalmoscope, ensure the adapter and SmartBracket are properly aligned. If they are, restart the app and reconnect the Android device.

  • Image Quality Problems

Ensure the ophthalmoscope lens and Android device camera are clean.

If images are blurry or misaligned, recalibrate the device.
