Multi Purpose Examination Device
Firefly DE608
Your most versatile Clinical Examination Device. Use it to show physical examinations, wounds, clinical findings, procedures and other areas that learners need to see in more detail.
Video Otoscope
Firefly DE500
Use the Otoscope when you want learners to observe an ear examination, including the ear canal and tympanic membrane.
Dermatoscope
Firefly DE300
Use the Dermatoscope when you want learners to observe skin lesions and other dermatological findings in detail.
1. Connect your Clinical Examination Device
Choose the device you want to use.
Connect its USB cable directly to an available USB port on your computer.
Your computer should recognise the device automatically. No additional software is required.
2. Check your device in VCE™
Open VCE™ on the computer you will use for your sessions.
Go to Setup and Devices and run the device check.
Select the Clinical Examination Device you have connected.
Check that:
The device appears in VCE™
You can see a live image
The image is clear
You can comfortably position the device for the examination
3. Position and focus your device
How you position and focus the device depends on which Clinical Examination Device you are using.
Multi Purpose Examination Device
Point the device towards the area you want learners to observe. Watch the live image in VCE™ and rotate the focus control until the image appears sharp.
Move the device closer or further away to find the right view, then adjust the focus again if needed.
Video Otoscope
Attach the appropriate speculum before beginning the examination.
Select the Otoscope in VCE™ so you can see the live image.
Position the Otoscope as you normally would for an ear examination.
Rotate the focus control slowly until the area you are examining appears clear on screen.
Make small adjustments to the focus as required during the examination.
Dermatoscope
Select the Dermatoscope in VCE™ so you can see the live image.
Position the device over the area of skin you want to examine.
Rotate the focus control slowly while watching the live image in VCE™.
Stop when the skin or lesion appears sharp and detailed.
Recheck the focus if you reposition the device.
4. Use your device during a VCE™ session
Enter your VCE™ session as normal.
When you are ready to show an examination, select the medical device control and choose your connected Clinical Examination Device.
Learners will now be able to see the examination in detail.
When you have finished the examination, switch back to your Clinical Room Camera.
Switching between Clinical Examination Devices
You do not need to connect every Clinical Examination Device for every session.
Connect the device or devices you expect to use for that clinical encounter.
If you connect more than one, you can select the relevant device from within VCE™ when you need it.
Your Clinical Examination Device is ready
Once your device is recognised and you can see a clear, focused live image in VCE™, setup is complete.
