Set up your VCE™ Connector Hub (Magewell)

Instructions for setting up and using a capture card with the VCE™.

Written by VCE Support

The VCE™ Connector Hub allows you to share a video feed from existing clinical equipment directly with learners during a VCE™ session.

Use it to connect compatible video sources such as radiology workstations, ultrasound systems, endoscopy equipment and surgical monitors to VCE™.

Requirements

  • The computer you will use to run your VCE™ sessions

  • An available USB port

  • A compatible clinical video source with a video output

  • VCE™ Connector Hub

  • HDMI cable

  • USB cable

  • Video adapter if required by your clinical equipment

Your clinical equipment must have a suitable video output. If you are unsure, check with your local IT, Medical Physics or clinical engineering team before connecting the VCE™ Connector Hub.

1. Identify the video output

Identify the video output on the clinical equipment you want to share.

Depending on the equipment, this may be:

  • HDMI

  • DVI

  • DisplayPort

  • Another compatible video output using an appropriate adapter

The VCE™ Connector Hub receives the same video signal that would normally be sent to an external monitor.

2. Connect the clinical video source

Connect the video output from your clinical equipment to the HDMI input on the VCE™ Connector Hub.

If your clinical equipment does not have an HDMI output, use the appropriate approved adapter.

Make sure the clinical equipment is powered on and displaying the image you want to share.

3. Connect the VCE™ Connector Hub

Connect the VCE™ Connector Hub to the computer you will use for your VCE™ session using the supplied USB cable.

Your computer should recognise the Connector Hub automatically as a video device.

No additional software is normally required.

Your connection should now follow this path:

Clinical equipment → HDMI → VCE™ Connector Hub → USB → VCE™ computer

3. Test the Video Feed

  • In the VCE™ web app, preview the video feed from the VCE Connector Hub to ensure it is functioning correctly. Use the 'Device Test Centre,' which can be found on the Dashboard.

  • Add monitor: Please use the 'monitor preview' icon to test the feed.

Using the VCE Connector Hub During a Session

  • During your VCE™ session, the VCE Connector Hub will stream the video feed from the medical source directly to the participants.

  • If prompted, accept the VCE Connector Hub as the video input device. If you miss the prompt, you can manually select the VCE Connector Hub by using the 'Medical Device' button during the session.

After the Session

  • Disconnect the VCE Connector Hub from your computer and safely store it along with the HDMI and USB cables.

  • Turn off the medical video source and store it appropriately.

Troubleshooting

No Video Feed

  • Ensure all cables are securely connected and that the video source is powered on.

  • Verify that the correct output settings are enabled on the radiology workstation or surgical monitor.

  • Check that the correct input is selected on the VCE Connector Hub.

Low Video Quality

  • Adjust the settings in both the VCE Connector Hub software and the VCE™ web app.

  • Ensure the resolution and frame rate are appropriate for medical imaging clarity.

Driver Issues

  • If the VCE Connector Hub is not recognized by your computer, visit the manufacturer's website to download and install the latest drivers.

Audio Issues

  • If your VCE Connector Hub supports audio input, ensure that the audio source is properly connected and configured within the VCE™ web app.

Configuring the VCE Connector Hub in the VCE™ Web App

  1. Open the VCE™ platform on your computer.

  2. Navigate to the Device Manager and select the VCE Connector Hub as the video input source for your session.

  3. Adjust settings such as resolution and frame rate to optimize medical video quality.

For more detailed instructions and advanced features, refer to the VCE Connector Hub's user manual.
