The Thinklabs One digital stethoscope offers advanced features and powerful amplification, making it ideal for virtual clinical sessions on the VCE™ web app. This guide provides instructions on setting up and using the stethoscope effectively.
Requirements
Charged Thinklabs One digital stethoscope
High-quality external headphones
Mobile device or computer for connectivity
Setup and usage
Charging the stethoscope
Connect the provided USB charger to fully charge the stethoscope. The LED will stop flashing and stay on when the battery is fully charged.
Use the USB charging cable:
Powering on/off
Press any key to turn on the stethoscope. Hold the “-” and “Alt” keys simultaneously for 2 seconds to turn off manually.
The stethoscope will automatically shut off after a pre-set time, adjustable from 1 to 10 minutes.
Volume and filter settings
Adjust the volume using the “+” and “-” keys. Start with a moderate volume to protect your hearing.
Use the “f” key to switch between different audio filters tailored for heart or lung sounds. Experiment with filters to find your preferred settings.
Connecting your stethoscopetep
Step 1: Plug in the USB Audio Adapter
Locate an available USB port on your computer.
Insert the USB audio adapter into the USB port.
Wait for your computer to recognize the adapter. Most systems will install drivers automatically, but you may need to follow on-screen prompts if required.
Step 2: Connect the Audio Cable to the USB Audio Adapter
Take the audio cable (typically 3.5mm).
Plug one end of the cable into the microphone port (red) of the USB audio adapter. This port is usually labeled with a microphone icon or color-coded red.
Step 3: Connect the Audio Splitter
Take the audio splitter (a Y-shaped adapter that separates microphone and headphone connections).
Plug the other end of the audio cable into the microphone jack side of the audio splitter.
Step 4: Plug the Audio Splitter into the Stethoscope
Locate the audio output port on your digital stethoscope
Plug the audio splitter into the stethoscope’s output port.
Step 5: Connect Headphones to the Audio Splitter
Take a pair of headphones (standard 3.5mm jack compatible).
Plug the headphones into the headphone jack side of the audio splitter.
Connecting the stethoscope in a session
Plug the device into your computer or mobile device. The stethoscope should be recognised automatically by the VCE™ web app.
You will typically receive a message prompting you to accept or deny the use of the stethoscope. If you accept, it will be integrated into your session immediately.
If you deny the initial prompt, but later wish to use the stethoscope, you can enable it by selecting the 'medical device' button during the session.
Using the stethoscope
Apply steady pressure when using the diaphragm. Adjusting pressure changes the frequency sensitivity, allowing you to find the "sweet spot" for optimal sound quality.
Use the Thinklink kit to connect the stethoscope to mobile devices or computers for recording or telemedicine applications. Follow the Thinklink connection instructions carefully for best results.
Maintenance
Wipe the stethoscope with alcohol swabs or a soft cloth. Avoid using abrasive materials or submerging the device in liquids.
Clean the ear tips regularly and replace them as needed to ensure good hygiene and sound quality.
Troubleshooting
No power
Ensure the stethoscope is charged. If it does not turn on, try charging it again or contact support.
Sound issues
If the sound is distorted, check the filter settings, volume level, and ensure proper diaphragm pressure. Also, ensure that the headphones are properly connected and sealed.
Interference
If you experience interference, try moving to a different location, tightening the diaphragm, or disconnecting from other equipment.
